Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff Review

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Illuminae was such a thrilling and surprising ride. The way that the authors set up the story was absolutely brilliant. Kudos to them both! Illuminae is told to the readers through a series of interviews, letters, interpreted dialogues, diagrams, and etc. The story was set up perfectly,  which allowed the reader to easily follow along. I was hooked from the beginning, but once I understood the gravity of the situation I didn't want to put the book down. The relationships that unfolded as the story went on were enjoyable. The authors did a wonderful job developing the characters.

I felt for Kady and Ezra being so close yet so far apart. The closer the countdown got to the interception of the Alexander fleet, the more on edge I became. I mean seriously what were they gonna do?!?!?! The restart of AIDAN though? Yea, that left me speechless. AIDAN, this intelligent system with a mind of its own..................... there were no words. I just knew all hell was about to break loose and you didn't want to be on AIDAN's bad side. Survival had become a priority by any means necessary. And just when I thought I had figured everything out, I realized just how little I really knew! If you haven't picked up this book yet, go get it! You are in for a ride! Gemina where are you?!?!?!

MY RATING: 5 out of 5
